Avid Certification

Avid Learning Partner The New York Film Academy trains students on Avid's Media Composer. Media Composer is a leading digital editing software in filim editing. It was used to cut each 2015 Oscar nominee for Best Picture and Best Film Editing. At the end of the 4 week and 12 week editing programs students may opt to earn an Avid User Certification. Please note, earning an Avid User Certification is not a qualification or requirement for work as an editor, it is simply a demonstration that the holder has mastered certain aspects of the software. The Academy is one of only 45 institutions in the country that hold the distinction of being an Avid Learning Partner.

DIGITAL EDITING SCHOOL LA

The Academy's digital editing school in Los Angeles is committed to training students in the art of editing digital moving images. The editing process is what gives a movie life and transforms it from a collection of scenes and shots into a coherent narrative; it's where all of the pieces fall into place. At the Academy's digital editing school in LA, students learn through continuous practice how to work with digital editing stations and software and understand how images and sound can work together to create a compelling experience for the viewer. Students not only learn the fundamentals of digital editing, but are also encouraged to develop their own unique editing styles in order to help them realize their individual goals.

Digital Editing Faculty LA

Students attending the Academy's digital editing school get the opportunity to work with experienced instructors who are active professionals in the field. Each faculty member comes from a unique background and students are thus able to explore particular editing topics in greater depth. The Academy's Los Angeles digital editing faculty includes some of the following instructors.

NYFA digital editing school Los Angeles faculty member Igor Torgeson

Igor Torgeson: An active editor in Los Angeles, Torgeson has been working as an editor for both creative and professional projects for over a decade. He has worked for such notable companies as the Gameshow Network, McGraw-Hill Publications, Citibank, California Gas Company, Brighthouse Networks, and Cessna Aircraft editing shows and commercials. His film work also includes editing the short film On a Limb and the television movie Teenie Tones.

Shawn Sullivan: Shawn has been the post-production supervisor for the NYFA's New York City and Los Angeles campuses, and is the director of the NYFA summer workshop at Walt Disney World. He has worked as an editor on short film, commercials, marketing videos, and feature films, with clients including Redken, Keller Williams, Exit Realty, Caldwell Banker, and Disney. In 2014, Disney presented Shawn with a Mousecar (Disney's version of an Oscar) for 10 years of working with Disney Youth Program and NYFA. Shawn previously worked for Apple teaching the Final Cut Pro film editing software. He is Final Cut Pro Certified by Apple. He is also an Avid Certified Instructor with the Media Composer film editing software. BA, Screenwriting: California State University Northridge.
